Aquamarine Solar Project
Turning Contaminated Farmland into Clean Energy
In 2014, CIM and a joint venture partner obtained rights to acquire more than 20,000 acres of drainage-impaired farmland in California’s Central Valley with a vision to repurpose it for clean energy development.
Activating CIM’s In-House Team
To help address the needs of public and private utilities and other energy consumers, our in-house team created a development plan to construct and operate several solar energy, battery energy storage, and transmission projects on the land.
Between 2014 and 2018, our Investments and Development teams re-entitled the contaminated agricultural land for renewable energy use. Our Development and Operations teams also secured transmission interconnection rights agreements with the transmission grid operator and power purchase agreements with regulated utilities.
First Solar Project Operational
Aquamarine, the first solar project in the park, became fully operational at the end of 2021. Completed on time and below budget, the project created approximately 500 construction jobs, employing workers from local communities. Today, Aquamarine has long-term power purchase agreements for its full 250-megawatt power capacity.
Our in-house Operations and Asset Management teams operate the asset to maximize value, leveraging specialized expertise in solar management, maintenance and reporting.
We believe our renewable energy projects support the growth of communities through sustainable and environmentally responsible means.
Aquamarine is seeking to contribute to California communities by reducing greenhouse gases, increasing carbon-free energy and bringing new jobs to the area.
