Terreva Renewables

Appleton, Wisconsin

Fueling Communities with Renewable Energy

Terreva Renewables is a leading developer and operator of renewable natural gas (RNG) projects, leveraging landfill methane gas to create sustainable energy solutions.

In 2022, CIM founded Terreva as a portfolio company when it acquired 100% of MAS CanAm, LLC’s platform of in-construction and development RNG assets. Our goal was to expand our investment in sustainable carbon reduction technologies and grow Terreva to be a leading RNG platform in North America.

By converting landfill methane—a greenhouse gas significantly more potent than carbon dioxide—into RNG, Terreva plays a crucial role in reducing environmental impacts. Each facility contributes to lowering CO2 emissions by displacing virgin fossil fuels and supporting the transition to cleaner energy.

CIM’s Impact

During our first year of ownership, our team raised $417 million from corporate and institutional investors to advance the growth of Terreva’s RNG platform. With the infusion of capital and CIM’s in-house expertise and operational support, Terreva completed and opened its first RNG facility in Appleton, Wisconsin, and began commercial operation of additional RNG facilities in Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Virginia.

In addition to bringing these five innovative locations online between Q1 2023 and Q1 2024, Terreva has two additional sites in development.1 Together, these projects are expected to produce approximately 8 million MMBtu of RNG annually upon full buildout.2 That’s enough RNG to displace over 22 million gallons of diesel fuel consumption every year.3

Terreva Today

CIM’s commitment to sustainability and extensive in-house expertise have been critical factors in Terreva’s expansion. With CIM’s support, Terreva continues to innovate. The company’s growth strategy includes partnering with public and private landfill owners to develop new RNG facilities and selectively acquiring other RNG projects or portfolios.

Terreva exemplifies how private investment and advanced technology can drive progress in renewable energy and sustainability to support communities throughout North America.
