West Adams District

Los Angeles, California

Infusing New Life into a Historic Neighborhood

West Adams is a vibrant community located in West Los Angeles, California. Established in the late 1800s as one of the city’s first suburban neighborhoods, West Adams was popular with Hollywood elite. As the decades passed and city traffic patterns changed, the area experienced economic decline, marked by low property values and high crime.

In the early 2000s, redevelopment began. The opening of West Adams High School in 2007 marked a turning point, spurring investment and helping to shift the culture of the neighborhood.

West Adams District

Amid the changing market dynamics, CIM saw the potential of West Adams and became an early investor in its transformation. The community had much to offer as a redevelopment project, with a prime location offering a 20-minute commute to Culver City, Hollywood, and Downtown LA, plus convenient access to the I-10 freeway. Its historic architecture, walkable layout and affordability compared to nearby Culver City were clues to what West Adams could become.

CIM’s Impact

Over several years, CIM has committed significant capital and activated our vertically integrated team to redevelop and transform aging buildings into dynamic locations where people live, work and relax. Our Investments, Development and Construction teams collaborated on numerous projects, including gourmet restaurants, creative office spaces and various retail and residential developments. Today, CIM controls nearly 50 assets in West Adams.1

Our Leasing team has leased space to restauranteurs, galleries, entertainment destinations and other businesses that have contributed to the radiant fabric of the neighborhood. These distinctive locations include:

  • The Gathering Spot: A social club composed of individuals from various industries and backgrounds who gather to discuss social justice and other issues. The Gathering Spot provides co-working spaces during the day and popular events in the evening.
  • A Place for Youth: A nonprofit organization providing free academic and vocational programs to underserved youth in the community.
  • Thinkspace Gallery: An innovative art gallery that has facilitated the recognition of young and emerging art talents from all over the world.
  • The Museum of Ice Cream: The museum provides an interactive and joy-filled experience for visitors that may serve as a major attraction to West Adams.

West Adams Today

The colorful West Adams district enjoyed an influx of new development and adaptive reuse, amplifying opportunities to live, dine and enjoy life in the heart of Los Angeles. The neighborhood now boasts a unique blend of historic Victorian architecture and modern establishments, alongside a dynamic cultural scene and creative retail spaces.

We are proud of the impact our in-house team has made in West Adams, and we believe the community is poised for continued growth and transformation as it provides new opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy life in West Los Angeles.
